Mormon Crickets Are a Thing and They’re Invading Nevada With Utah in Their Sights

Mormon crickets are invading parts of Nevada and some are worried Utah will be next, which would be ironic because, you know, mormons…

Apparently, they usually have a population boom every 20 years and this just happens to be one of those years.

“When you bate them on your property they keep coming and they keep eating the ones that were there before them that have passed,” said Elko, Nevada resident, Julie Holling. “…They smell horrible and they’re slimy.”

Nevada’s State Entomologist Kris Watson, says that while they’re a nuisance, the crickets are actually important to the ecosystem and to that we say a big ol’ “NOPE!”
