A Texas woman purchased a winning lottery ticket worth $83.5 million recently, but her winnings are being held by the Texas Lottery Commission because of the way she purchased the ticket.
The legality of the use of courier services, like Jackpocket, to purchase lottery tickets has been up for debate in Texas, which is why when this woman used one to purchase $20 worth of tickets among which one was the winner, the Lottery Commission is now withholding the jackpot.
After her win, state lawmakers put the pressure on and the TLC put out a news release saying the courier services are not legal in Texas. Typically, Texas Lottery winnings are paid out within three days of tickets being claimed, but this woman is waiting on an investigation and has since lawyered up.
