14th Annual Dahl Mountain Photo Competition + Exhibit Opening Reception & Awards Presentation

April 6, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

We are pleased to announce the 14th Annual Dahl Mountain Photo Competition + Exhibit, where the outdoors come in to celebrate mountain culture. This exhibition is on display at the Dahl Arts Center from April 6 – April 28. Join us on Friday, April 6 from 5 – 7pm for an opening reception and awards presentation for this year’s artists. This annual juried photography competition is part of the Dahl Mountain Culture Festival.

Eugene Jackson, publisher at the Rapid City Journal, Steve Babbitt regional artist/photography professor and Ray Tysdal, professional photographer, have selected this year’s participants through a blind jury process. There are three exhibit categories – youth (18 and under), adult amateur/hobbyist and adult experienced/professional. Judges will award the Rapid City Journal cash awards for First, Second and Third place in all three categories plus a Rapid City Journal Best of Show award. Additional awards to be selected include Curator’s Choice and People’s Choice awards. Winners will be announced at the artists’ reception on Friday, April 6 at the Dahl Arts Center. The winning photos will be printed in The Rapid City Journal and featured on their website.

Visitors to the exhibit will select the Rapid City Journal PEG SAGEN MEMORIAL People’s Choice Award. This is a special award named in honor of Peg Sagen, former editor of the Rapid City Journal who was at that post for more than 20 years. The public is encouraged to vote for their favorite photo while the exhibition is on display, April 6 through April 28. The Rapid City Journal People’s Choice Award winner will be announced after the exhibition closes.
